Cloud of Sigh project
Final proposal
Idea 1.
HOW ARE YOU?
Every day we get the same question from everyone.“How are you?”
How do you answer to that question?
If you feel bad, you would say “ hm, actually I am not feeling good and I am so tired…”?
It is easy to say “ I am good, thanks” even though you are not good and that is the way I usually do. I don’t want to ruin other people’s day by sharing my bad feeling. Then how can we express our mental status in a gentle way? And also helpful to manage our stress.
When I am under stress, I can feel that there is something bothers me in my mind but is you are not that carefully looking into your mind, it is easy to overlook it and also easy to be overlooked by your people.
Sigh is a behavior of exhaling depressedly. That represents you are under stress or there is something you are worrying or it is an expression of your sorrow. If we can get to know how much sigh we had in a day and express that in a fun way, would it be better to manage our stress?
Goal : manage your stress by breathing sigh.
Sub goals: express your stress level in a fun way and try to switch to social level.
Sigh can be measured by :
co2 density / shaking / air collected / chest movement
Idea 2. Posture corrective tape.
Before I got ITP, I was working for more than 10 hour a day sitting in the chair and I realized my body condition was not in a good shape. After I realized that, I decided to make a check list to follow for everyday. Such as ‘Don’t cross my leg, don’t lean back to the chair’,etc. Even I wrote on a post-it and attached that in front of my desk, old habits were hard to break.
Thus, I’d like to make an instant feedback system toward my posture by using accelerometer. The tape is consisted with tube and there is colored liquid inside the tube.It could use the same mechanism for Floaty Pens. Depending on my posture, the tape which attached to my back is showing the parallel status and get instant feedback like vibration. When I am holding a heavy bag on my right shoulder, I can feel vibration on my right shoulder and move the bag to left one. Also it can be attached to my pants so that I can get a alert when I cross my leg.
If I could develop this system to my entire body, I can track my body posture for day and get an average posture data at the end of day. If I was sitting too much, then I can get a sense of that and make a plan of walking for tomorrow.
Stress Management Through Exercise
We talked about our own personal experiences of health and well-being to identify common themes. We found that we had experienced the feeling of being overwhelmed by options, choices, activities, people, places – the day to day disturbances that shape our levels of stress and happiness.
We initially thought that we would design a system whereby the user would make a list of decisions or items that were causing stress, with an inner loop monitoring their progress as they complete individual items. This system was just too general to be able to model – e.g. every different type of item had a different approach to sensing.
We continued on the theme of stress management, but focused on one item that helped us all manage stress – physical activity. We identified that exercise helped us maintain physical fitness and a sense of rhythm in our lives.
We decided to model a system that would help us monitor our stress levels and define a level of exercise relative to that stress level.
The goal of our system is to help a user maintain their level of stress.
The outer loop’s goal is to help the user maintain a target level of stress by defining an amount of exercise to be undertaken.
- The sensor is a manual test – every day the user assess their stress level from 1-7. For each point on the scale an amount of exercise is defined.
- The system compares the current stress reading with the previous reading.
- If there is a change, the amount of exercise is changed.
- If there is no change, the amount of exercise is maintained.
- The target environment is the amount of exercise planned.
- Possible disturbances include a lack of available time (if we only have 5 minutes to spare, defining one hour’s exercise is problematic)
The inner loop’s goal is to help the user complete the amount of exercise by comparing the amount they have completed to the amount required.
- The sensor is the user’s watch or clock. The user checks the number of minutes of exercise completed against the amount required.
- The system compares the amount completed to the required amount.
- The user exercises for the amount of time remaining.
- The target environment is the amount of exercise completed.
- The Possible disturbances include all the things that get in the way of exercise; apathy, competing time requirements, location

Para Functional examples
time is money
Put your coin into this clock, you gonna know time is money.
This piggy bank adopts the shape of clock and also it is clock itself.
The design is not ideal to be a clock nor a piggy bank but by putting your coin into this clock, people will know we can’t buy time in a poetic way
STRESS RELIEVER BOX OF DIAZEPAM
Made of squeesable foam, this stress reliever is the all natural way to feel light and fuzzy. squeese yourself into calmnesss!
The Drug Diazepam is used for the treatment of anxiety disorders. Diazepam also is used for the treatment of agitation, tremors, delirium, seizures, and hallucinations. It is used for the treatment of seizures and relief of muscle spasms in some neurological diseases. Otherwise known as Valium, Diazepam is easily addictive, and after prolonged use may cause symptoms of withdrawal.
It eases anxiety without the added risk of insomnia, headaches, nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, sweating, anxiety, and fatigue. You will also not need medical supervision to taper off your dosage.
Exformation exercises
A day is consist of sleep and non sleep. How many hours of sleep are enough for good health? We feel like we need to sleep but in fact, we often ignore that body sign. Mom said “ you need to go to bed now” but we said “I know I know, I will” but we don’t go to bed at that time. It is because of that we believe it is going to be okay even though we can’t sleep enough. Is it really okay? The amount of sleep we need depends on various factors. Then how can we get to know it is time to sleep or not.
I came up with earring idea in that it can detect our body position by using accelerometer and determine how many hours we slept. It indicates the levels of how urgent we need sleep right now and if needed, it will generate alarm sound which tells you you really need to go to bed now.
Exformation of sad. When you are having trouble, you feel like you can handle that and you all know about your mind. The fact is that you just ignore your sad feeling. This hat of sadness allow you to think about your sadness and give an opportunity to take a look at your sadness. When you wear this giant magic hat, you can recall all your sad memories and have time to treat it by yourself.
Feedback loop systems
system 1
mood tracking system : moodtracker.com
The mood chart shows user’s daily mood level along with their hours of sleep and their medications. The chart can show a month, a quarter, or a year of information.
With Support Alerts user can schedule text messages to be sent to a cell phone on a periodic basis to remind user to take their medications, or to notify a friend that they are having a manic episode. It also works with e-mail. The Medication History helps user keep track of what medications they’re taking now as well as what medications they’ve had in the past.
system 2
Stress tracking system :stresspile.com
It’s a way to look into past private and personally to help user start to eliminate user’s stressors for a healthy stress free life without the aid of medication.
Tracking user’s stress can help them avoid doing the same things over and over than can leave to depression, anxiety and a lot of other medical illnesses.

Fantasy Device Proposal
My first fantasy device is called “sigh-sign” and it is a mental health tracking device for people under stress. This device can measure level of stress and also suggest the way to keep cool under stress immediately. When user sigh their sigh, this device would capture their breath and tell you how much you are under stress based on its density of carbon dioxides or length of sigh. Once it gets the result, it will suggest the immediate solution depend on user’s mental health condition. The suggestion could require deep breath, or meditation by providing proper music, or recommend some stretching.
Another feature of this device is that user can put what cause their main stress so that user can get self stress analysis and try to avoid it.
The second idea has similar feature with the first one but this one is more focused on every day’s body condition. It is called ‘magic mirror’ and user can use this in a normal way of utilizing mirror. When user stands in front of this magic mirror, this device will capture the outlook of user and provide today’s condition based on difference from previous data. It could be blood-shot eyes, swollen face or skin tone. With these health parameters, user can get to understand what is going on with their body and also what to do for improvement. It comes with small print, so that user can get tiny instruction for day. It says that try to have more green vegetable today, try to avoid any alcohol tonight, or recommend some posture which is good for your body condition.
