Pristine Nature paintings at the MET

Project with Alex Olivier.
Our first class project we were asked to go to the Museum of Modern Art, select a picture from the 18th or 19 century of what we thought as pristine. These are our findings and resulting project.

In meandering through the galleries we came up with a lot of fun approaches to this idea of pristine. It seems a classical definition is belonging to nature. An idyllic picturesque moment in time where man-made structures or man-made disruptions are not evident. To emphasis this point of human interruption we first made a couple of animated gifs of Alex disrupting my view of “pristineness.”

We thought it would be an interesting take to raise awareness of the lost of this idyllic atmosphere. We used the lost poster language for this.

But perhaps my favorite is this version.
