BBMP NY – The machine

BBMP is the abbreviation of the scream from the followers of the brazilian soccear team Bahia. Bora Bahia Minha Porra means something like: “Go, Bahia” (soft translation, there is little curse words in the original). And it became a huge “tag” in the digital world.

My idea was to create a small machine that could take advantage of all that intense communication and also, I really wanted to master the process of getting arduino to connect to the internet, following the “internet of things” concept.

Interactions:

Voice / Microphone : Every time you scream in front of it, it will send a tweet. And it appears in the LCD.

Twitter: Ultimately, if you tweet anything using #BBMP it will sooner appear on the LCD.

In this project, one of the highlights was a small tweet-print machine, but I wasn’t fully aware of the tech details. But as we don’t used arduino, I remember at the time of all the limitations we had.

I used Cosm to connect arduino and twitter. Here a small capture from the platform.

For the future:

Audio visualization

During the process, I became very obsessed with this new idea of audio visualizations in stadiums and public spaces.

Imagine beautiful screens outside and inside the stadium with animations following the crowd screams and reactions in the game. That’s something I’ll start to research.

Big Screens, Small screens

Big size and also small size objects for passionated followers of the soccer team.

Materials:

Arduino Mega

Arduino Ethernet Shield

Microphone

 LCD
