[MF-W4] developing metaform idea and physical modeling
Initially, I was interested in the expanding/shrinking/developing/moving/breathing boundaries and the reason why I chose Chinatown was it seemed the fastest expanding area in Manhattan.

While thinking the expanding boundary, I just start to think that how about make a new group/concept/immigrant to the existing area. Although, Amy, guest speaker last Monday, didn't say "let them Chinatown as it is", her comment sounded like it to me.

I can start 'Lovely-Street'(tentative) area at Manhattan from ITP intersection (B'way and Waverly) similar to Chinatown at Pell/Doyer/Mott streets. The Lovely-Street can expand like Chinatown. It might have characteristics. If people come in to this area, they might feel it is 'Lovely-Street'. It could be eco-friendly, children friendly, the disabled friendly, and elders friendly street.

Then, for metaforms, I can put a historical start point of this Lovely-Street landmark somewhere and express this area's characteristics in visual and tangible object.

My basic purpose of this idea is that I want to make meaningful impacts on this city for all people especially alienated one.

initial metaform idea.

A five meter diameter of sphere wound with green cloth is installed at ITP intersection. It could have a link with ITP fourth floor that means the sphere comes from ITP. After several days it explodes in every direction. As it expands, the green cloth pass by and wind whatever, which needs a touch for lovely street. For instance, signal light (solar panel), car (hybrid car), building (eco-friendly, disabled accessible), trash can (separate disposal), and sidewalk (disabled friendly).

Big Bang,
A origin of big bang has all the universe. the sphere has all ideas and technologies for make better street. This might be the first Chinese came to Manhattan or historical place such as church or grocery store. The lovely-street project may need quite long time to prevail Manhattan but it also took more than a hundred year for Chinatown nowadays.

After Big Bang,
The place of the sphere could be changed to an implant of expanding meaningful culture , but the same time, it could be an lovely meeting place. Some LCD monitors may show the information of the concept, technologies being used or will be used around the world that stimulate awareness of assistive technology and sustainability.
