I watched "La Jetée" by Chris Marker on Google Video.
It's a kind of film, and it is a sequence of still images. It reminded me of exhibition at the Grey Art Gallery, Moving Pictures. In the exhibition, I saw many pairs of still images and moving pictures. "La Jetée" looks like the middle stage from still image to moving pictures. It combined still images and added narratives.
Interesting point was that I could imagine the interval of each scene like graphic novels not in recent animations. If this piece was just a film what we said then it would be possible.
During our team was making a short narratives, I keep thinking about this film; each still image, transition technique of changing images, length of images, combination of narrations and images.
I think the expression of imagination is somehow limited to the technique, but also it can be possible to use existing technique for expressing the other ways. In that point, I appreciate "La Jetée". |
