Before this concert, I've listened to several recordings; Argerich's and Richter's. While I was listening to the Shostakovich, I found that some melodies were similar to the composer's String Quartet No.8. I attended to the Emerson String Quartet's concert held on June 25th 2005, in remembrance of the 50th anniversary of the Korean War, and they performed Shostakovich string quartet No.8 which became my best string quartet. I like grotesque mood which maybe an intense agony about misery war, WW2.
I really enjoyed every moment of the Shostakovich except annoying noises of other audience such as a snore, cough and so on.
Ironically, I'm not pleasure with pleasuring music but with sorrowing so that I, honestly, was not interested in the Tchaikovsky. The simple melody repeated in the joyful way. However, I felt great tension at the ending. Whole audience couldn't make any sound or hand clapping several seconds after the end. I really felt good at the moment.
Some interesting points and questions. One of staff tuned up the piano in intermission. Did pianist or other performer request it or not? or it was need for the Shostakovich. At the concert in Seoul, we should buy the program of the concert but playbill is distributed free in here. |
