LA JETEE

La Jetee

My thoughts after watching this short movie was that the plot was very original and the way that the story began in the middle and reverted back to the past to explain the current situation was unique and creative. The plot is delivered by revealing the main character’s childhood memory as described in the movie as witnessing a woman during a tragic event at an airport. While revealing the events and the memories of the woman he sees he is drawn to the woman. The story takes place after a nuclear war where experimentation of time-travel is forced onto the main character who is a prisoner after the aftermath of the war. At the end of his time travel, he was to be executed, and by the wishes of the main character longing to see the woman in his memories again, he chooses to go back to the place where he saw her. As the movies come to an end, he has traveled back in time to the place of his childhood memories and sees the woman was drawn to. As he is running towards the woman, he sees that one of the people in the crowd next to the woman is one of his captors in the future and then he realizes that the tragic event of his childhood memories was of him being shot by the man that has traveled back with him to his childhood place.

This movie unlike modern movies doesn’t have much dialogue, there is just narration, pictures, and images. This movie I thought had great story telling. It had gloomy narration and gave me an uneasy and suspenseful feeling throughout the movie. I did some research about this movie another similar movie was made in 1995 called Twelve Monkeys. This movie was inspired by “la Jetee,” and was also a strange movie. In summary, I enjoyed the creativity of this movie and it was nothing like ordinary story telling.
