Project Description:
This is an experiment in capturing and exchanging unconscious choices by participants.
The installation looks like a camera.
If the person stands in front of the camera their image is stored in
the camera. If they look into the camera they see the images
of other people who have previously stood in front of the camera. Without knowing it, the person looking into
the camera is having the movements of their eye tracked. This records the path of their attention as
their gaze travels across the subject's image.
In
addition, there is a web site where individuals can go to see how others viewed
them. The path of other people's eye
movements across their image is replayed for them.
Technical Notes:
I constructed the apparatus for eye tracking using a system similar to teleprompter.
I wrote the software as a Java application.
I am currently working on the installation and the web site.
