Whatever creative field you’re working in, there’s at least one journalist working to cover it. Okay, maybe in 2023 there’s only really one journalist for the field you’re in, and they happen to be an overworked, underpaid, stressed out part-timer who badly needs a salary, benefits, and a union. In my career in media I’ve been pitched by complete newcomers, giant corporations with PR budgets eclipsing NYU’s endowment, and everyone in between. Come to this session if you’re interested in hearing what I’ve learned–and advice I’ve sourced from other journalists–on how to make contact that will actually lead to a conversation and potential coverage of your work. I’m a pretty open book, and I encourage any other campers with experience in journalism to drop in and offer their perspective as we move from general advice to discussing attendees’ work and the kinds of coverage they’re interested in landing.
