This session is a condensed version of an undergraduate course taught by Ciaran Short and Eden Chinn, separated into a two-session series. The first session (June 13) defines political and social resistance as a fundamentally creative act, as they both depend upon imagining and fostering new realities in which we desire to live. This first session will also include a lecture defining alternative and activist media, and sharing visual examples of sociopolitically engaged art. Participants will select a specific issue they want to organize around and brainstorm different strategies for how they might create an artistic intervention collectively, referencing the previously shared examples.
During the second session (June 24), participants will share project progress (this can also be speculative) and critique each other’s work.
