“Everybody looks alike and acts alike, and we’re getting more and more that way. I think everybody should be a machine. I think everybody should like everybody.” - Andy Warhol, 1963

At the dawn of the computer age, New York-based artists and composers created scores, instructions, and conceptual artworks that responded to their newly post-industrial society. In this session, we’ll take a quick look (and listen) to the work of several of them, including John Cage, Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, La Monte Young, Sol LeWitt, Mieko Shiomi, and Donald Judd. The session will close with a screening of Tony Conrad’s analog/digital film “The Flicker” (1965/66, 30 minutes).

Because it uses stroboscopic effects, "The Flicker" may not be safe for people who have epilepsy or are sensitive to light.
