We often think of fabrics as felt and seen--not heard. But in this workshop, we are going to make some noisy textiles! You will learn how to craft a speaker out of fabric, conductive thread or fabric, a magnet, and an amp. We will discuss how materiality impacts sound, consider different options for audio signal generation, and explore the affordances of these soft interfaces. If you have it, please bring basic sewing supplies and an embroidery hoop. I will bring extras, but I may not have enough for everyone.
Note that while this session is not hybrid, I will be posting the full slides afterward for campers who are not able to attend in person.
