An informal series of stand-alone thinking and drawing sessions – feel free to come to one, two, three, or all four. The instruction and feedback is designed for all levels of drawing (and thinking) experience, from beginning to advanced. (Actually, at least by the time you are 16, everyone has advanced experience with both drawing and thinking, – unfortunately, people don’t always recognize that fact, either in themselves or others.)
Whether you use digital or analog media, drawing is shaped by the way you think. Two of the main approaches to drawing are representational/realistic and abstract. This session will explore how the way we think about objects, characters, and locations influences what we actually see and how we draw. We will come up with character ideas and designs, then develop and refine them. There will be a live clothed model for sessions 2-4. Bring something to draw with, something to draw on, and something to change your mind/erase with (analog or digital). You might want a pad or something to support your drawing surface, especially if you are using paper.
Studio 1 – What You Think Is How You See. Introduction to character design and drawing and the role of conceptualization in the process of drawing. Some ideas behind abstract drawing versus representational/realistic drawing. We will be working with imagination, objects/props, other artists’ drawings, and photos
