New updated description
Studio 3 – Krazy Dreams. We'll work on drawing abstract characters, looking at styles such as 'rubber hose' animation, and various cartoon, surreal, and other non-representational styles. We'll think about the process of world building and creating characters from creative imagination including imaginative and dream worlds such as Krazy Kat, Little Nemo in Dreamland, Calvin and Hobbes, etc. There will be a live clothed model.
Part of an informal series of mostly stand-alone thinking and drawing sessions – feel free to come to one or multiple sessions. The instruction and feedback is designed for all levels of drawing (and thinking) experience, from beginning to advanced. (Actually, at least by the time you are 12, everyone has advanced experience with both drawing and thinking, – unfortunately, people don’t always recognize that fact, either in themselves or others.)
Whether you use digital or analog media, drawing is shaped by the way you think. Two of the main approaches to drawing are representational/realistic and abstract. This session will continue to explore how the way we think about objects, characters, and locations influences what we actually see and how we draw. We will come up with abstract character ideas and designs, then develop and refine them. There will be a live clothed model. Please bring something to draw with, something to draw on, and something to change your mind/erase with (analog or digital). You might want a pad or something to support your drawing surface, especially if you are using paper, or you can use the room's tables.
