Community has become a bit of a buzzword lately…So how exactly do we define community?
Community as we know it has typically been: - Where we were born and/or raised (neighbors, school, local culture). - What cultural or religious tradition dominated our surroundings - What interests we had the opportunity to explore (what clubs were available at our school, what extra -curricular our parents could afford, did we have the opportunity to start our own clubs or was that “weird”).
Then, marketing and influencer agency used the word to mean subscribers or customers.
Let's work together to redefine community in the art space and digital era.
We'll be discussing what's the threshold between making for a community and being exclusionary, the importance of how public art democratizes art, the impact of architecture and street installations and street art and allowing art to belong to the public.
