Imagine you’re working on an interactive project and you want to test out some of your ideas. Maybe you’re designing a polished UI frontend for your physical computing project, or a chat interface that connects multiple devices, or a sound-reactive display that runs off your phone’s mic.
You might think the only way to create a dynamic, working prototype is by coding (or vibe coding?) it out. But there’s another way!
This 2hr session will be a hand-on deep dive into ProtoPie — a no-code tool for building high-fidelity interactive prototypes that can respond to real inputs, like sensors, gestures, or hardware signals. You can barely tell they’re prototypes!
We’ll cover how to...
- Bring designs into ProtoPie from Figma (or start from scratch)
- Build dynamic interactions driven by data or user input
- Connect to device sensors like tilt, sound, or proximity
- Create multi-device prototypes that sync and communicate
- Integrate with external APIs or microcontrollers (e.g. Arduino)
What you’ll need:
- A Figma account (free!)
- A ProtoPie account (free!)
- A computer with ProtoPie and ProtoPie Connect both installed
- A mobile device with the ProtoPie Player app installed (iOS or Android)
- A USB cable for your phone <> computer
- [optional] A microcontroller project using serial I/O (can be Arduino, ESP32, etc) and a USB cable to connect it to your computer
You’ll get the most out of this session if you have a basic working knowledge of Figma, but beginners are welcome too :)
