Reconfiguring the Digital Image

In an age where most images we encounter have no physical referent—never printed, never touched, never "seen" outside a screen—our relationship with the image has fundamentally changed. This workshop invites participants to critically and creatively engage with the digital image through three fundamental concepts from programming: repetition, aleatoriness, and interaction. Based on these three notions, I created three programs that each explore the digital image through one of them. Each participant will bring a single digital image that deeply moves them, an image they have only encountered digitally. They will upload this image into the system and select the notion they wish to explore: repetition, aleatoriness, or interaction. The participant will then be able to modify the variables associated with that concept in order to observe how these affect the image, alter its structure, or generate entirely new compositions.
