👤 ARTIST BIO
Ken Zhang is an artist and interactive installation maker working across photography, moving image, physical computing, web interaction, and spatial installation.
Shaped by years of moving between languages, cities, and continents, his practice explores translation, displacement, and the instability of meaning.
His ongoing undergraduate journey has unfolded across three continents, from Chicago to Shanghai to Sydney. Moving between languages, continents, and cultures, he turns the instability of meaning and thinking into the foundation of his artistic practice.
🌐 DESCRIPTION
We are all living in a multilingual world.
You speak English. I speak Chinese. They speak Spanish.
And how much of the meaning we yearn to express was lost in the process of language conversion? How does this loss shape connection, identity, and creativity?
BABEL visualizes these linguistic and cultural gaps.
In this interactive installation, a sentence is translated through multiple languages and eventually returns to its original language. Through this process, the work reveals how language does not simply express thought — it also reshapes it.
