Draw and cut with Cameo

The Silhouette Cameo vinyl cutter is the most underrated machine in the shop. Six of them sit high on the shelf and seem to only be for making vinyl decals but are actually flexible tools for stickers, masking, pen plotting, and other small-scale fabrication.

Unlike a laser cutter, the Cameo cuts vinyl without melting it and cuts paper without turning it into a tiny campfire 🔥. Unlike the giant vinyl cutter, the Cameo is compact, approachable, and perfect for quick personal projects. It is especially useful when you just need to make something at night and don't want to rely on shop staff to set up the bigger machine.

In this workshop, we’ll walk through the complete workflow of creating and sending SVGs from Inkscape to the Silhouette Cameo and demonstrate a number of projects and workflows. After that, campers will split into groups and create their own projects through hands-on exploration and making!

All of this information also applies to smaller vinyl cutters which can often be found for less than $50, not just the ones in the shop.
