The Joy of Laser Cutting self-guided workshop will introduce you to an online tool that covers the basics of how a laser cutter works, what techniques it is capable of, how you can set up files and how you can combine techniques to create finished projects. A facilitator will be on hand to assist you and to help run files on the laser cutter.
Through the design and assembly of biscuits and crackers, participants will develop a rounded understanding of some of the techniques that are possible in working with a laser cutter and will have the opportunity to design their own wood or plastic baked goods.
Ideally, participants are artists or creative makers who have not previously worked with laser cutters but are interested in learning. Participants should have some familiarity of Adobe Illustrator and general comfort working with computers.
This workshop is part of the research work for Alda Escareño’s master’s thesis. Participants will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire after the workshop, and will additionally also receive a couple of questions through email a month after the fact. Participation in the research component of the workshop is voluntary. Participants will receive additional information through email once they RSVP.
Due to equipment and material constraints this session will be limited to 5 people. Please only RSVP to this session if you are definitely able to attend and stay for the entire 2 hour session. If anyone RSVP-ed is not present by 5 minutes before the start time, their spot will be given to the next person on the waitlist who is physically present.
We are asking that participants bring their own laptops with a copy of Adobe Illustrator. Please inform the session leader if you do not have access to either.

Any chance of running another of these in the evenings?
