Data Driven Activism

Considering the amount of fake news, alternative facts and lies coming out of the highest office in America, we as artists, designers, journalists and decent human beings should do all we can to make the fact-based truths speak louder than the falsehoods. To do this we look to the data.

In this workshop we will cover how to find appropriate data using publicly available datasets, web scrapping and APIs, briefly cover data scrubbing and analysis, and focus on the best way to present and visualize the data. We will be covering the basics of JavaScript, jQuery, D3js, Python, Kimono, Open Refine, Datavisual, Excel and Sublime Text. This workshop is designed for anyone, but a basic understanding of the web and web languages would be helpful. Please make sure to bring a laptop for this workshop.
