In this session, we'll be diving into the exciting world of synthesized sound, with the focus on modular synthesizers.

What is Synthesized sound?

It's electronically-produced sound. Think of the Stranger Things soundtrack...or pretty much any song from the 80's.

Because my personal area of "expertise" is NOT in the comparison of classic synthesizers (there's a whole lot of that online) we won't get deep into model numbers, but we'll pull up some YouTube videos of the main contenders so you can get a feel for the range of sounds and tonalities.

The Main Focus

The main focus of this class will be to help everyone get their head around what synthesis is - oscillators, filters, sequencers, effects, etc. I'll also talk about some basic non-boring-physics principles of sound and audio while we're at it.
