We will be learning how to make and perform algorithmically-defined music/sound using Sonic Pi. We will start by going over some of the history of generative music, investigating examples like the works of Steve Reich or Brian Eno.
We'll then dive into the basics of making synths, loops, and playing samples in Sonic Pi. We will also cover how to have Sonic Pi send or receive instructions to other devices over midi.
This session will not get into the finer points of music theory, but will instead focus on how to craft and explore systems to generate sounds which we find compelling.
Headphones recommended. If you have a midi controller or instrument that you'd like to try hooking up to Sonic Pi, you are more than welcome to bring it and test it out.
