The human population at the time this description was written was 7.62 billion. A meta-analysis of 69 studies into the potential maximum capacity for humans on Earth produced a point estimate of 7.7 billion. While the range of possible capacities is dramatic, it’s entirely reasonable to consider that we are either approaching or have already exceeded the Earth’s capacity to support us as a species.

Discussing this topic is far more difficult than discussing topics like the environment or CO2 emissions. Considering that we as humans may need to figure out how to limit our growth to protect the planet and ourselves is fraught with challenging and difficult to consider topics that are easier avoided than considered.

In this session we will review a range of studies and referenced information on topics including overpopulation, overconsumption, and disaster capitalism. We will then broadly discuss and consider the potential options, outcomes, and perils that may arise for us as humans in this situation.

Part 3/3 of the “Mindful Intelligence” series. The other sessions are recommended, but not required.
