Machine Learning Without Computers

In this workshop we will explore topics in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence without using computers. We will learn about dimensionality reduction, classification, machine hallucination, training bias, and more, all without using a computer or writing an equation. No background in math or theory is required - applicable to all disciplines.

In teaching Machine Learning it can be difficult to bridge the gap between "WOW COOL!" and the actual theory and mathematics behind it. It's possible to teach people how to quickly do cool stuff without learning the theory. Or you can teach math and theory but won't get to hands on.

This workshop attempts to bridge this gap by using an amazing intelligent learning machine we already possess to explore the subject: the human brain.

An experimental version of this workshop was given as "This is your brain on AI" at ITP Camp 2017, and under the new title at SFPC Learning to Teach 2018.
