What is fascinating about 3D creation tools is that they simulate our physical world while also providing the option to alter it. It allows us to shape and transform our surroundings according to our imagination. In this hands-on class with Blender, a free open source software, we will delve into an alternative world where the environment reflects our inner world.

We will look at some examples of 3D artists' work and investigate on how our understanding of the physical world and ourselves can be challenged and reimagined through creative expression.

Without worrying too much about 3D modeling, we will use basic geometries and 3D assets and introduce physics simulations in Blender such as particle systems, fluid, collision, dynamic paint to experiment with. We will workshop our mood/ego together and get a 3D object reflected our inner psyche: whether find it online, 3D scan your favorite object with polycam or 3D scan yourself/create your avatar, etc. to get ready to transform it with your own favored physics simulations. It's possible that we can't finish everything in one session, so I prepared a Part2 session to have more time to work on, particularly stylizing the result with lighting and materials, adding animation frames and also get it rendered.

It’s beginner friendly! Previous knowledge in Blender is preferred but not required. Please download Blender https://www.blender.org/download/ Bring a 3-button mouse, pen and sketchbook.

!Update: Part 2 is going to be an in-person workshop only if you attended the first session and want to come and finish the work with materials, animation and rendering. Folks who have used blender are also welcome to come and work on your project. I will help you with the process.

Part 1: -Workshopping: Why 3D

-Look at some 3D artists/works

-Blender Interface

-Demo: landscape making/particle system/dynamic paint/fluid

-Mood Workshopping

-Get a 3D object/3D scan/ prepare for next session

-Choose your physics simulation + Work session

Part 2: -Get your mood/ego-3D object ready

-Make some animations

-Material/textures, a bit of lighting

-Render and export it
