Connected Devices & Networked Interaction Spring 2014
I’m not sure why the user ever needs to enter the serial number. Can’t that be discovered by Bluetooth?
As a general UI rule, users should never have to enter an arbitrary number or string of text if it’s discoverable computationally. The better alternative is to give the number a name, something memorizable as a pattern.
It makes sense for box-user configuration case, but the serial number we’re thinking about is like a key sender and recipient will share. It’s for updating open-trial-and-failure for both. We thought box itself should be the sharing key for an app social aspect.
