blue transfer paper (ask Rob if the lab is low on supply)
Using the scotch brite pad, in a circular motion “rough up” the PCB material. This will help the toner transfer in the laminating step to come.
Insert blue paper face up in the printer. Print your artwork.
Your artwork will print out. Place your print face down on the copper side of the PCB.
With the blue side of the paper face down on the copper, run it through the laminating machine on setting 5 ml. Do this 3-4 times.
Prepare two containers: 1 filled with acid so that it just covers the depth of the PCB board and 1 with water.
Place the PCB/artwork that has been laminated into the water bath. Here I’ve used magazine paper instead of the blue paper above, either is fine to work with. After several minutes, you can peel back the blue paper or magazine paper to reveal the artwork which is now transferred to the PCB material.
Place the board in acid (here I’m using vinegar so you can see the chemical reaction). Either way will do, although vinegar increases your wait time.
Be sure to agitate the acid bath to keep the process active. If you’re using vinegar, add salt periodically to speed up the etching time.
Hold the board up to the light. When you see light coming through the board, you know those are the places that have been properly etched. Be sure to look carefully with a keen eye for possible shorts in your board.
