Sustainable Choices

In this category, we’re offering information on relatively easy alternatives for virgin acrylics, plywood, and other materials that are commonly used for fabrication. The alternatives include off-the-shelf options (green vendors) for Chemically Recycled Materials and Mechanically Recycled Materials that are produced through processes like shredding+compressing.

The alternatives include off-the-shelf options for materials that have been certified as sustainable through industry standards or are already recycled.

As seen on the graph below, these are options that take relatively low effort and time on your side, and the results will be more controllable (compared to other options such as DIY Biomaterials) since these alternatives have similar properties as the virgin materials that you’re familiar with. While they’re handy options, you won’t have much freedom or material creativity compared to working with DIY biomaterials.
