Week 9: Rolling Robots

Overview

Robotics is a huge field,  we will focus on robots that roll on wheels.

Robot – a machine capable of carrying out a series of actions automatically, especially one programmable by a computer.

Our definition of robotics will be loose.  You can think: RC controlled object, fully autonomous, a machine that can sense its environment and reacts to it, or an object with a robotic esthetic.

Beam Bots – (from Biology, Electronics, Aesthetics and Mechanics) is a style of robotics that primarily uses simple analogue circuits, such as comparators, instead of a microprocessor in order to produce an unusually simple design.  BEAM robots may use a set of the analog circuits, mimicking biological neurons, to facilitate the robot’s response to its working environment. – via

Assignment
