Jake Porway is the Data Scientist at the New York Times Research and Development Lab where he studies trends in new media and works to make sense of giant datasets. He received his B.S. in Computer Science from Columbia and holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Statistics from UCLA. Jake's past research focused on data analysis for intelligent systems, including probabilistic models for object recognition in images and video, anomaly detection, and election prediction. He is interested in building smarter machines, expanding statistical literacy, and any project that crosses the boundary between art and technology.
