Project II: 3rd update

I don’t know anyone else, but there is always a question that crushes me. It is Who am, and I know most people will say it is not a fresh idea worth being a title of a project.  however, I will say it is very important, first of all, people don’t say it, but I know during each time people question themself, and debut themself. we all have because I thought everything happens to have to be a reason. So to figure out who we are is very important. That is the capstone of our life.

Final Project One

For this project, I want to introduce what is the Migratory Bird, and what is the relationship between the Migratory Bird, and Border, also there are a lot of migratory birds that died in many different factors, and I explored the number of those birds that already died and gave 6 different ways of solution can reduce such high rate Fatalities, also I made symbiotic bacterias as the metaphor to my topic. that is going to reflect my guide. and answer the questions that I used to have during the guideline progress.

Post Mortem Final Refelection

My topic is Migratory Bird and Border, Migratory birds go on seasonal travel do definitely will go cross the border. so around this idea, I am open to exploring and researching my topic.

I make this system map with my team during class, and the function of this map offers obvious positives for the whole process. It is like a guideline to start research. But also making this system map is the biggest challenge for me. because at the beginning I don’t have any idea about what is Migratory bird, have no idea about the relationship between migratory birds and borders too, so this map helps a lot to find out the relationship if your topic combines more than one element.

What did you learn?

I’ve learned a lot of things, especially the system map, it is a very important key when you have no idea about your topic. it can help you to find out many different ideas relative to your topic.

What might you do differently in terms of process or content?

the form which is the way I am going to deliver my topic. I have a hard time making decisions to represent my migratory bird. I thought to go with a storybook or map, but all of them were hard to link back with my metaphor. but I made a lot of changes from the very beginning.

What was inspiring? What parts?

The image and the tone of my project part took a lot of time for me, I draw a lot of pictures as references. I researched many migratory birds, and compare many different color tones that I am going to use. finally, I used the Rococo color tone because it is also a way of metaphor, if people didn’t pay attention to this moment, will lose the beautiful creature very soon.

Revisit the assignment prompts: how did your project relate to the original prompts, in terms of critical lens, audience, tone, etc…

I thought the Len tone become softer, became easier to accept. the way becomes more gentle but powerful( because I have learned more details about my topic, and found more resources to support my topic. ), in the beginning, the prompts were paler. and weak.

How did you balance research and experimentation? Which is easier for you? How can you focus more on the areas that you shy away from

research is easier for me, because of all the information just over the internet. but experimentation going to take a lot of time from people. I did most of part of the research, took the experience from people who already researched a similar topic, learned a lot of experience from them, and combine my situation to make my work happen.

System Thinking

  • by

Which system (type of stakeholder) that Easterbrook identified did you find your understanding of GMOs most aligned with? Why? What are some of the stakes for these stakeholders?

A system of ecosystems and contaminants that weaken them.

I think the topic is exactly the thing that suits my topic. Human beings only focus on their development, and sacrifice thing, which is innocent, and are not harmful to human beings. sometimes human beings realized they have crossed the line, they made mistakes. however, they didn’t call back the mistake, because a call back will cost money, and will take part of the advantages from some of the stakeholders. or in my opinion, that is not enough.

Can you Identify 3 stakeholders (groups or phenomena) with different perspectives, and then describe the system (the stakes) from which they are operating?

1, Bird killers: they do their job, killing birds or getting away from birds is in their job description. They get paid on birds. if there are no birds, that means the position of them will have no excuses for being excited.

2, The traveler who takes the airplane from the airport. make the airport a center, within 15km is birds’ hell. So traveler travel based on birds sacrifice. because of human beings’ freedom, have to make an area to avoid birds.

3, The last one I think is the manager of the Airport, everyone knows, if an airplane crash happens, the GM of the airport will be the first person who is going to take responsibility for this case. make sure to avoid personal career crushes, I think they can count as one stakeholder.

Guide Progress – Draft

  • by

I had quite a hard time starting my topic, I thought it is an easy one, but after I had my first system map, I just don’t know what is the thing I want to deliver to audiences. but I found the same element, which are both happening in birds, and borders, and I link them up, and the airport is just the first picture that I have in mind, I interviewed my friend who is the “bird killer”. I did research on birds and the definition of the border.

So Birds and borders officially became my topic. I did the research so I am going to use the “Miami strange dead crocodile”, and “symbiotic bacterias” as my metaphors to boost my information as well.

Form Analysis

Why this form? What are its features (stylistic, experiential)

I will show up use picture, and text definition as my form that just like the art piece display in gallery . I will make 3 pictures related to my topic. The first one have few birds fly in the empty gray sky that over a barren land. the second has vivid color, the symbolics bacteria  working well under a Microscope, the last one is many people standing on the green grass, and watch a lot of cute birds fly in blue sky. also for each pictures, will come with different type of music. or background sound.

How is this form typically used, and what do you plan to subvert/imitate/utilize

while I display the picture, and play the background sound, and a human voice going to delivery message.

What would change if you tried a different form? What critical lens does the form your applying emphasize?

If I would change the other one, I will try to make animation to delivery, and the critical lense of me will emphasize on why people can survive with symbiotic bacterias.

Is there a metaphor well-suited to your form (i.e. cooking with code)? Or, are there other metaphors you might employ?

Yes. I will stay with symbiotic bacteria, but I will consider to have another one to make my topic even stronger.

Metaphors We Live By Response

  • by

Lakoff + Johnson give several examples throughout the text of linguistic metaphorical systems. Are there any you found odd, outdated, or different from metaphorical systems that you use, either personally or in your language, culture, or social sphere? For instance, do you speak about conversation as a battle, or use orientational metaphors the same way the authors describe?

From my personal experience, there are many metaphorical in my culture. And Chinese poems are just perfectly made metaphorical in the most extreme way.  Now is autumn, it reminds me of one of the poems from Shi Su, there is one sentence is:一年好景君须记,最是橙黄橘绿时间。(explanation is: the best time for the whole year you have to remember, the best time is about having the yellow-orange, and orange color tangerines.) the author use the color to metaphor the season which is Autumn. it makes people have more impression about this poem. I think this is also the function why does metaphorically being excited.

Can you identify a metaphorical system that you commonly use? What do you think is the motivating rationale (“experiential basis”) behind that system – or is there one? Have you ever intentionally (or unintentionally) changed the metaphorical system that you use to speak about a certain subject, to reflect a different experience or worldview

A metaphorical system that I usually use are orientational metaphors. For instance, I used to describe no more shopping, I usually like to day cut off my hands. When I speak in these metaphors, I envision my life and behavior to display in one picture, what truly delivery my ambition of “no more shopping”, it bring out my emotional status. Furthermore to use cut off hand refer to quit of shopaholic is very common in China.

What metaphors/systems of metaphor are commonly used when discussing your topic? If “the essence of a metaphor is understanding and experiencing one kind of thing in terms of another” (5), what other kinds of metaphors might be useful for discussing your topic, or an aspect of your topicFor?

For my topic, I used “symbiotic bacteria”, metaphors refer to Migratory birds. because, symbiotic bacteria can survive as the same time with people, both of symbiotic bacteria and human being are act well. I just want t show people migratory birds can survive as symbiotic bacteria, can work smooth with the whole society.
