My thesis mainly aims to explore the relevance between human being as an independent individual, other individuals, society and natural environment. There are many problems in the current society, such as old problems (some people are becoming more and more stuck in their own ways, people’s negative impact on the natural environment, western white supremacy), and new problems (global epidemic, intensified local protectionism, fake news on social networks affecting national politics). In view of these problems, I would like to discuss among the individual, society and environment, trying design some art installations to solve these problems, or design a simple practical tool.

Design 1 :A world without you(Art Installation)

This idea originated from my final project last semester. I used a 360-degree camera, “Three. Js and HTML create a virtual environment with a mirror-like sphere in it. In addition, I set up an aluminum fabric balloon in the real space to contrast with the ball in the virtual world.

This is an art installation that can be set up in any environment, such as a forest. In these kind of environment, visitors can see, your image in this sphere, and the surrounding green natural environment image, at the same time, visitors need to scan a QR code, through the QR code, will lead to a web page on your smart phone, in this web page, visitors can see the mirror ball, but visitors can’t see yourself or other visitors to mirror, this is a virtual space, only a ball, with the environment, but not human. Through such behavior, I want to convey the connection between a person and the environment, so that the audience can think about and understand what people mean about the environment, and understand the space and time around us and our relationship. In the context of the green environment, perhaps protecting the environment is the dominant artistic interpretation.

Design 2:Gaze (Art Installation)

My background is a photographer. When shooting subjects about literati, most of the focus should be placed on people’s eyes, which are very important for us. The movement of the eyes that unfolds, the eye contact, or the eye contact, is a magical experience.

This is an empty room, have a lamp , a display, when the artist or participants into the room, the screen lights up, it is the image of the participants,  is the process in order to make them look at themselves, but also need time to matching connection.) Then another 30 seconds later, another person’s head will appear on the screen, just the image, no voice. Visitors are asked to make eye contact with each other. The duration of this art activity is about 2mins. Want to tell people: we in the global field of vision, should not thinking in the original point of view, at least take a look at the appearance of other people, similar to the traditional portrait, it is a kind of power, I want to convey a different, a kind of intense sense of life in it.

Design 3:Sniff (App)

There are a lot of dating apps out there, and to a certain extent, it kind of isolates people, people can find someone they like right at home. I was inspired by Pokemon Go and wanted to get people out there. Less face-to-face socializing in society. I was thinking there was something like a sonar radar. For example, when the user is walking in a square, the band will vibrates if they are close to someone with a similar interest, but does not specify who it is. Like the sonar on a submarine, if your target is very close, the vibration gets stronger and stronger.
