This page below has already incorporated some relevant feedback:

  • What do you need to change or develop to encourage your ideal interaction?

The main issue that surfaced was user interface for the website. In general, the concept was clear but some of the elements were distracting and/or confusing. Some helpful feedback included editing sections, new language (particularly sections headers) that would clarify.

  • What additional research would help advance your project?

Additional research includes the equivalent of “racialization” in other cultural contexts. As I have shifted the sphere of my census to be global, the language and taxonomies are inconsistent with hierarchical categories globally. For example, in India “race” would be replaced by caste and sub-caste and possibly region. In China it is region (defined through the Hukou system) and religion/culture. Etc.

Due to a shift in what will be included in the website, simplifying the interactions to just a simulation/trickery of the actual census site, the type of research has shifted a bit. Instead of including information that would “reveal” the project, additional pages will mimic what is on the official website.

These US census pages are examples of elements to include:

Also, I have landed on using the tea set as the container/frame for the Cornell boxes. However, I would like to resolve more specifically what viewer-interaction I want: individuals to pick them up? Move in the direction of archive (i.e. accompanying text, and in what form)? Use the material objects as starting point but potentially mediate the experience through video/images (i.e. project inside the cups)? Etc.

  • Do you need to update your production timeline?

I am on track with my timeline. Only one of the four individuals indicated that taking on both projects was too much. However, they were the only one that had not worked with me before. The other three did not seem to think it was a problem.

  • What user testing do you have to do?

I need to send my google form out to a broader group of colleagues and friends and gather small groups for workshops (objects). I am keen on completing the first three pages of the website soon in order to user test that.
