Production Timeline
I’ve moved over to Notion to keep track of research, design, production. Documentation is still kept loosely on this google doc.
Here is a link to the Notion production timeline.
The meat of it is in Design & Dev, which I’ve copied the notes from Notion below:
- Solo Performance: learn how to play with signals (w/ the tools I have to make sense of them) on my own
- I’ve started to try this but have run into some issues with hardware capacity (might need to increase sd card or even rpi4) so I’m looking into sending audio via bluetooth / airplay
- Currently my thoughts for a solo performance include a feedback loop, to see how signals get morphed over time, how they are (without too much math) interpreted by various machines and receivers
- Laptop sends SDR signals (via airplay, cords, or… ? ) to raspberry pi. Raspberry pi transmits the signal to radio, which is then sampled into the Digitakt. An LFO is applied to the signal, and the result is fed back to the laptop. What happens then? Do I layer the ‘edited’ signal with another incoming signal? This would be a ‘chorus’ effect. Store it to be played later on as a composition?
- no idea how this really connects to my conceptual aspects (currently limited with technical knowledge)
- Another idea is to record whatever the radio is playing with a contact mic and that feeds into the digitakt

- Also making a radio / amplifier to give another color to the sounds I’ll be transmitting
- Small interactions / 2 person performance: Once I’ve figured out how to convey signal-sense by myself, I can start to introduce another person. I haven’t quite figured out how to do this, but I imagine at the very least, this other person would be tuning and re-positioning another radio (if you hold them up real close to one another they ‘interact !’)
Potential issues:
- Currently don’t know (it might be possible) if I can transmit to more than one frequency at the same time, otherwise, I’m limited to remaining on the same frequency which eliminates the possibility for tuning w/ thumbs
- Group / larger audience participation
- Dependent on findings w/ 2 person especially in transmitting to multiple frequencies, or is there a way to link one transmission to the next? Like a domino effect or chain link?
- Another issue: currently, everything is set to work on my home network so I could see how changing venues might be a huge headache for me (not impossible but tricky since I’m new to this stuff)
