Cornell Box / Brainswarming / Experiments

My experiment this time is about a time control in my “Random Portait” design. This art installation is interactive and requires human participation. The main part was to ask participants to gaze at a portrait, and I wanted to explore how long most people can maintain their attention to a portrait. So I found some portait on Google and asked my friends to look at it. The test result was that most people could only concentrate for 45 to 60 seconds. Then I asked them some simple questions, such as: how long  do you get a sense of what the person in the portrait is trying to convey something to you? What can you sense from the portrait? After listening to my description, how long do you think this art installation should be designed for “gazing”?

On the other hand, I think the portraits on Google are all very artistic. Most of them are stars or taken by  famous photographers. They themselves can convey a kind of emotion, which may be very different from ordinary people. In addition, lighting seems to play a very important role in this, such as the shaping of backlight or eye light, which will give people a sense of mystery and make them want to explore the characters in the portrait more.
