Thesis Journal vol.8 wk6.5 – Formulating Thesis Final
It has been a wonderfully busy week after formulating my first thesis draft proposal on the 7th March. In my review session with Andrew and Ruta, we agreed to tidy up my thesis proposal structure by distilling the essential messages, as little as possible. In this case, to provide a summary of my questionnaire interview will be helpful.
In addition, I will focus on the experiments that are most relevant after all the effort of researching. Ruta’s suggestion on allowing an organic experimental process sounds like a brilliant idea to me. At this moment, I am pretty sure my first experiment would be to record my own voice in different conditions and emotions then to be played with a positional audio web experience.
Furthermore, Andrew provided me with the idea of dealing with the topic from both the double meaning of voice of sonic and human intelligence. He further articulated with The Proust Questionnaire as support which is fascinating to me. I have secretly put it in my pocket and waiting for a meaningful connection to happen in the future development process.
To further address the user journey of this project, Craig spent time with me to brainstorm possible experiential factors and sequences in my project. I see his question of what is the best thing that will happen to my project for my audience as a kind of lighthouse question. My goal would be to emulate a process of getting to accept one’s own voice creatively. At the same time, Craig’s lighthouse question creates a strong link to Carrie’s question. Which was to encourage me to include my personal experience and motivation in my proposal in order to create a stronger bond.
In both sessions Craig and Carrie mentioned the Repeat After Me project. This project engages with the audience by providing voice inputs in an analogue telephone booth. And feedbacked with a collective sound of voices to both web and Twitter. With further research on the idea of synthetic voice. It is now all around us and expanding to the assistance of a mute person. In this video of personal synthetic voice development, the boy was able to work with one of the voice banks to mix and generate his very first own voice. It’s a very touching story to me.
