Thesis journal vol7 midterm and feedback reflection
I’m lucky to have our guests, they took my project out of the imagination stage. I used this sketch to explain my idea in this phase. After that, I also shared my struggle with this project: I don’t want it to be much like “podcast mass” stories came to the first(though they are important). I wonder if human behavior (including the actions distance changing) will play a more important role.
I think the good news is most of them feel there is no gap between the concept and the approach. I want to share two of the reference they shared:
Gal shared a project called “Pilgrim” I appreciate it used movement as an interaction mechanism. If audiences change their move pace will affect what the audience is hearing. This project did what I wanted to do. Unfortunately, this project is not public for now. But this article is helpful: https://www.adweek.com/performance-marketing/this-augmented-reality-audio-podcast-brings-the-camino-de-santiago-to-life-everywhere/amp/
Tiri shared with me the “walking mass ” which is such a cool project she is working on. It’s clear, simple, and straightforward, convey the idea of “being separated but together” I know this project from Instagram, so glad she’s on the guest list. Those dynamic walking routes taken from the air fascinated me.
The feedback section has given me a clear direction, while I need to push it even more further on the previous projects. I’m glad I had an appointment with Andrew last Friday, and he pointed out a better direction to go. Go back to the instruction. That exactly what I’m thinking. Because I need to focus on the distance.
So I’m going to put the storyline aside until May, focus on personalized instructions, and design a system with rules then it can start from instruction but it will leave some space to let the story come out. I can tell there is potential for developing a new way of the social aspect on a location-based AR. I spent a lot of time experimenting with AR last weekend, but it all failed. I think I urgently need to know:
- the process reference
- how to detect the distance between people? (Kinect or phones?)
Besides, I also explained the initial idea of the red thread of fate to every guest. Huiyi is the only one asking for which relationship I want people to build through this project. She mentioned after I talk about the red thread she was a little confused about the final goal. This reminds me to focus on my goal need to consider the audience’s environment and context. I think the confusion came from we all have a certain idea about the red thread. I think I already aware of that, which means I’m constantly adjusting as I go along.
