First session of thesis has been really helpful to identify and set up goals for the next month, especially as my production timeline has been slowed down due to my organization of a trip to New York. First small assignment was to write a freewrite about my points of interests and to establish a clear structure of the things I am excited/terrified about, what do I want to achieve and why do I want the audience to experience with the project.

The second assignment was to set up a criteria of measurable objectives and I decided to follow a SMART format which will lead me to a more specific selection of the measurable criteria. SMART stands for:

Specific

Does the objective narrow down what needs to be done?

Measurable

Can you easily measure and track your objective to see if you’re close to success?

Attainable

Is your objective realistic enough to be achieved?

Relevant

Is your objective important to the mission of your business?

Timed

Does your objective have a deadline?

Goals & Objectives:

  • To create a platform for people interested in augmenting reality of natural soundscapes through sound.
  • Set up a working website that integrates the basic concept of the project, where at least 2 people get to collaborate and experience the interface in real-time by 21th of June.
  • Sound design of at least two different ecosystems with an element of geophonical, biophonical and antropophonical sound.

Totally fulfilled: my project is inviting users to collaborate in a real-time web experience, sharing sound and interacting with it through motion sensors integrated in smartphones.

Somewhat fulfilled: An experience for only one user joining the page, choosing which ecosystem she/he would like to explore and control the sound with sensors.

Not fulfilled at all: Users are not able to make a connection between the concept of the project and it’s interactions presented on the website

Deadlines:

  • 10th of June: working prototype for a collaborative web experience of at least 2 people (1player is controlling the sounds of a natural soundscape, 2nd player is controlling the antropophonic sounds that represent the intervention of human into a natural soundscape reflection on user testing and further development of the interactions
  • 17th of June: integrating the visual part of the project and adding a second ecosystem for the experience
  • 24th of June: preparing the final documentation/presentation and polishing the website
