Wk 2 Cornell Box
I consider this more of a sketch of a Cornell Box than an a fully realized product. I liked the idea of using the box in a more literal way, I think it reminded me of the common idiom “think outside the box” which I feel has some relation to the currents thoughts I am having towards my thesis. Which is exploring technological systems through the lens of animism as “other than human” or even “more than human” beings. The items in the box consist of broadly speaking two (or three ) categories. Technological objects, spiritual objects, and (container objects). The technological objects consist of cables, a kindle, an older iPhone, and a small LED remote control. I choose these to invoke a sense of knowledge, being “connected to”, and technical control. Juxtaposed against them are two medallions which have some visual elements of connected to South American belief systems. These items were selected as representations of wisdom, being “connect with”, and an organic complexity. All items are inside of or on top of smaller boxes, this it to highlight the separate relationships people ( I ) tend to have with the concepts (aesthetic, spiritual, and technical ) The larger box of course contains all of these objects completely and is itself also an object worth examination. Although not visible one of the cables which wraps around each of the internal objects actually exits the larger box hopefully with the intention of implying a more holistic connection to the rest of the world.
