Jesse Yu – Week 3 – Research & Dream Review & Mood Boar
Research
To use a technology, I’d like to know it little bit better. The followings are some papers I found.
Maddock, D. (2021). What is cinematography in the age of virtual film production? posing a new definition for the practice of Cinematography. Journal of Film and Video, 73(4), 44–58. https://doi.org/10.5406/jfilmvideo.73.4.0044
Priadko, О., & Sirenko, M. (2021). Virtual production: A new approach to filmmaking. Bulletin of Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. Series in Audiovisual Art and Production, 4(1), 52–58. https://doi.org/10.31866/2617-2674.4.1.2021.235079
Zhang, Y., & Weber, I. (2021). Adapting, modifying and applying cinematography and editing concepts and techniques to cinematic virtual reality film production. Media International Australia. https://doi.org/10.1177/1329878×211018476
Responding to Adapting, modifying and applying cinematography and editing concepts and techniques to cinematic virtual reality film production
The study provided some new take-ons of traditional ideas in cinema. What does 180 rule mean in a VR world? What does editing mean in Cinematic Virtual Reality? How the audience’s focus was layout out in a 360 environment? How may a director then manipulate the attention? I find all these topics significant to contemplate. However, the author obviously took a case study on his own production, therefore, the intention was first-handly clear but without any proof.
Additionally, the author quoted himself from his PhD thesis.
“This form of filmmaking differs from traditional VR whereby the virtual world is typically generated through graphic processing and audio elements in real time (Zhang, 2020).”
The author considers real-time graphics inferior to pre-rendered picture because he continues to quote the following
“However, Mateer (2017) suggests that CVR uses pre-rendered picture and sound elements exclusively, which means the quality of the filmmaking assets begins to resemble high-end television or feature film standards.”
I don’t agree with the author. I think pre-rendered and real-time pictures can go hand-in-hand at where they are suitable
Nevertheless, I can learn from the practical problem and solutions from this article.
Dream Review
(I’m hoping for an overly exaggerated almost fake news media coverage here to gain attention from people so far away from the academic or the industry — the granny who sells strawberry in the market next street would stop by and enjoy maybe
