Thesis Journal Week 1
Here is a my brainswarm that I conducted on Miro on the first day of class.
After the brain swarm session, I found that all my topics could in one way or another overlap with each other. Topic-wise, I feel drawn to environmental problems as well as indigenous and marginalized communities whose voice has been taken away in the mainstream media. And medium-wise, I am fascinated with blending the traditional film medium with new technologies such as VR and AR; I am also willing to utilize my production design background and bring a physical component into my work. Therefore, I see possibilities of having an exhibition or installation that manifest all of this: may it be an VR documentary set in a space that mimics the place in the film? May it be an AR app that take you on a narrative arc while you explore in a space? I am not sure yet.
Beyond all these uncertainties in my mind, I’m curious to see which would be the most suitable way to marry film with interactive media art. I’m also curious to see how storytelling, an art as old as the human race, may evolve during the process of exploring on the edges among mediums.
