To start this class I’m thinking about the kinds of projects that are dreamlike. I want my thesis to have longevity. Perhaps this means it’s deployable or created for a larger platform. In any case the people that it engages with will be the most important. My project will be relevant to other artists and participatory processes that are so common within generative works.
I’m thinking about connected performance with a wide net. I take inspiration from Maggie Hansen’s body, embodiment: “selfhood may only be understood with the assistance of an outside object–i.e. one mirror. Lacan reflects on the destabilizing effect this discovery can have–realizing that identity is only definable with the aid of an outside object. This is the beginning of the new thoughts on embodiment.” Hansen confirms media as an extension of our senses which grounds me to offer people ‘new’ extensions. Like many of my peers, I’d like to jump off my CE final topic. How is affect assembled through movement language?
Beyond mocap, 3d rendering… What are the array of tactile sensors at my disposal. How can I hack sensory devices so they read and write to our bodies with conventional or unconventional social practices? What are low tech circumstances (skills, places, budgets) doing about performance tools.
Next steps are to create a wireframe of my ideal interface and a sound piece describing the tools I want in my performances without context.
