I believe that my senses and experience construct the symbolic system I rely on to understand and construct metaphors. When different fields of knowledge are put into my symbolic system, a new idea emerges, an idea that extends into more branches, which look like a bunch of discrete parts, but are actually related to each other.

That’s my explanation of how I used to work, and in fact it’s a minimal explanation of how most people perceive things.I think we can think of the product of each of our symbolic systems as what Buddhism calls “hetu”. The forces generated by countless hetu interactions can be regarded as “politics”, which is why I always think my work is closely related to politics. So every metaphor in every one of our works is a study of things and things, people and politics between people and things. There are subtle relationships in even the simplest everyday life.
