Visual Experiment

For my visual experiment this week, I started playing with projecting live video feeds and bringing in audio elements. I set up a more permanent mount for my projector and did a deep dive into a new mapping tool called MadMapper. I was able to get an educational license/discount and look forward to attempting more serious/polished recordings in the future. I’m really excited with exploring the projection mapping ecosystem of tools and think it could provide a really flexible technical foundation for iterating on thesis ideas.

People in the field

  1. Shannon Mekuly LPC ATR – Shannon was recommended by a close friend and psychiatrist Dr. Jacob Mays. She’s local to Austin and has a Masters of Professional Studies in Art Therapy and Creativity Development from Pratt Institute. She would be a great resource once I’ve established a baseline familiarity with the topic and could formulate good questions
  2. Dana Sayer – Dana is a Drama therapist, also recommended by Jacob. They are a theatre artist, activist, independent scholar, freelance writer, and community organizer. They are also a gardener, crafter, home cook and baker, nerd, and cat mom. I think Dana would be a great resource to offer a perspective on art therapy as its used in the non-visual arts
  3. Susan Hogan – For my research, I purchased up a book by Dr. Susan Hogan titled “Art Therapy Theories: A Critical Introduction.” It’s been a really fascinating insight into Art Therapy from the perspective of the major therapy practices such as CBT, Freudian, and Jungian modalities.
