Yuchen_Week_1_Thesis_Journal
Here is my brainswarm screenshot, and I am questioning myself what should I do. The question of “what” really reveals what topic and theme I wanna do or research about. Here are three big categories: Bias, in-game, and out-of-game. The bias talks about the social bias towards programming, games, and play. These are all about kid education. I have read several books about kid education: Free to Play and Inventive Minds.
There are 3 main ideas of my thesis. Kds’ education about AI and Programming, Bad game UI, and China-lized games.
After group discussion, I decided to combine the last two ideas as a new bigger idea. The irony of bad games. I will research some bad elements in games and out game to produce a new game called bad game simulator, or commercial game simulator. More details will be shown in the next journal.

Hi Yuchen,
Really excited to see how these new ideas are forming. I would recommend reaching out to https://www.deathbyaudioarcade.com/ Death by Audio Arcade folks, a really lovely collective of indie game makers (with lots of ITP ties) who love all things game design. There is also an incredible Game Design studio at NYU and I would start reaching out to the some of the folks that teach there!
Congratulation on diving the topic dipper!! There’s a magazine telling the progress of the development of the Game Industry, the devices and the mechanism & ideas of a different era.

Also, the book Actionable gamification by Yu-kai Chou shows the framework/principle of the game experience design. I don’t think you should follow the same principle of this book, but I encourage you to start to frame your principle of the game experience in the later phase if you think it’s helpful.
