{"id":10381,"date":"2011-09-20T11:14:06","date_gmt":"2011-09-20T15:14:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/?p=10381"},"modified":"2011-09-20T11:14:06","modified_gmt":"2011-09-20T15:14:06","slug":"job-research-fellow-in-gaming-learning-and-motivation-sciplay-ny-hall-of-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itp.nyu.edu\/opportunities\/2011\/09\/20\/job-research-fellow-in-gaming-learning-and-motivation-sciplay-ny-hall-of-science\/","title":{"rendered":"JOB: Research Fellow in Gaming, Learning, and Motivation, SciPlay, NY Hall of Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Research Fellow in Gaming, Learning, and Motivation<\/p>\n<p>SciPlay at the New York Hall of Science<\/p>\n<p>SciPlay, the Sara Lee Schupf Family Center for Play, Science, and Technology<br \/>\nLearning, located at the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI), is searching for a<br \/>\nresearch fellow for a leadership role in a new National Science Foundation-<br \/>\nfunded project in the Research and Evaluation on Education in Science and<br \/>\nEngineering program, \u201cInvestigating the Capacity of Game-based Design<br \/>\nElements to Enhance Affective Dimensions of Genetics Learning.\u201d The project<br \/>\nwill systematically investigate changes in learning (high school genetics) and<br \/>\nmotivation when game-based elements of narrative, conflict, and community<br \/>\nare added to a project-based science curriculum (designed around Concord<br \/>\nConsortium\u2019s well-researched dragon breeding software). This project is in<br \/>\ncollaboration with Concord Consortium, Parsons The New School of Design,<br \/>\nFilament Games, Michigan State University, New York University, and New York<br \/>\nCity Department of Education.<\/p>\n<p>Position Responsibilities:<\/p>\n<p>Coordinate and contribute to the design of the game-based interventions<br \/>\nConstruct measures to capture changes in science learning and motivation<br \/>\nLead the planning and execution of the research study<br \/>\nOversee data collection<br \/>\nAnalyze data using mixed methods<br \/>\nPrepare publications and reports on findings<br \/>\nPresent findings at national conferences<br \/>\nServe as liaison to participating schools<\/p>\n<p>Requirements:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Education research experience conducting trials and analyzing data using<br \/>\nmixed methods<br \/>\nKnowledge of measures of motivation<br \/>\nExperience with statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, or STATA<br \/>\nExcellent written and oral communication skills<br \/>\nAbility to work well with a team comprised of a diversity of disciplines<br \/>\nIdeal candidates have (or will soon complete) a Ph.D. in the learning<br \/>\nsciences, science education, psychology, or a related field.<br \/>\nCandidates with a Master\u2019s degree in one of the above areas with<br \/>\nsignificant experience conducting related educational research are also<br \/>\nencouraged to apply.<br \/>\nKnowledge of high school biology, in particular genetics, is a plus.<br \/>\nExperience designing instruction and\/or teaching science is a plus.<br \/>\nDemonstrated interest in informal science learning is a plus.<\/p>\n<p>Salary is commensurate with qualifications: $50,000 &#8211; $60,000 with full<\/p>\n<p>benefits.
