EDITORIAL ASSISTANT POSITION STARTING SPRING 2012!<\/p>\n

The Prize-Winning Academic Journal PUBLIC CULTURE (located at NYU) is Seeking an EDITORIAL ASSISTANT to Start in the Spring 2012 Semester.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Position is part-time\u2014approximately 10\u201315 hours per week
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hourly pay: $10\u201315, depending on eligibility
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Starting date: flexible between January 9\u201323, 2012
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All applicants must be eligible for Federal Work-Study
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fall 2012 availability a plus
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Familiarity with relational databases, web-content management systems, and extensible markup language (XML) preferred
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Computer-programming skills and experience with audio\/video equipment a plus<\/p>\n

\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fact-checking footnotes and reference lists in journal articles
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Preparing original content for the journal website and new online book review, Public Books
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Taking notes at in-house editorial meetings
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Acquiring contact information sheets, contracts, art and art permissions, etc., from authors
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Compiling “Books Received” list
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Maintaining complimentary copy list
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Setting up and maintaining NYU and other listserv announcements related to the journal
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ordering office supplies<\/p>\n

Public Culture<\/em> is a reviewed interdisciplinary journal of cultural studies, published three times a year for the Institute for Public Knowledge by Duke University Press. Since its founding in 1988, Public Culture has established itself as a prize-winning, field-defining cultural studies journal.\u00a0Public Culture<\/em> seeks a critical understanding of the global cultural flows and the cultural forms of the public sphere which have defined the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. As such, the journal provides a forum for the discussion of the places and occasions where cultural, social, and political differences emerge as public phenomena, manifested in everything from highly particular and localized events in popular or folk culture to global advertising, consumption, and information networks.<\/p>\n
