This will be a 9-month\u00a0appointment; we anticipate an initial 1- or 2-year appointment at the rank of Lecturer Full-Time or a 3-to 5- year appointment at the rank of Senior Lecturer, depending upon past experience, with a\u00a0possibility of renewal. The position includes responsibilities for teaching in our Bachelor and Masters\u00a0programs, with an emphasis on courses related to usability and user-centered design and courses\u00a0involving significant project work. The lecturer will be responsible for teaching at least two courses per\u00a0quarter (with 3 quarters per 9-month appointment) as well as engaging in departmental service\u00a0activities. Additional funding opportunities may be available during summer quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The appointment will likely start in Autumn 2012, but possibly earlier. The level of appointment and\u00a0compensation will be commensurate with the applicant&#8217;s qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>The position requires a PhD in a field related to Human Centered Design or HCI or significant work\u00a0and\/or teaching experience in this area. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated\u00a0excellence in teaching, particularly design-oriented and studio-based teaching, as well as experience in\u00a0course development. Candidates with past experience or background suitable for teaching design and\u00a0engaging in studio-based teaching are encouraged, and should describe that experience.<\/p>\n<p>The successful candidate will join a vibrant faculty conducting interdisciplinary research in humancomputer interaction and the design of socio-technical systems. Current faculty research includes work\u00a0in CSCW, systems theory, computer-mediated communication, ICTD, usability studies, emerging\u00a0communication technologies, and engineering education. The department is the home of the awardwinning Laboratory for Usability Testing and Evaluation, and faculty regularly collaborate with\u00a0colleagues in Computer Science and Engineering, the Information School, the School of Art, and the\u00a0Center for Engineering Learning and Teaching. The faculty also routinely engage in research projects\u00a0with affiliates from the region\u2019s noted high-tech industry.
