The REMAP\/RITL Workshop for Digital Media, Theatre and Design

An initiative of UCLA’s Center for Research in Engineering, Media and
\nPerformance (REMAP) and the Leon Katz Rhodopi International Theatre
\nLaboratory – in association with the Open Media Cluster of the
\nTelematics Park of Rome and the Municipality of Formello, Rome.<\/p>\n

The REMAP \/ RITL Workshop for Digital Media, Theatre and Design explores
\nhow emerging technologies, materials, and media practices can provide
\nnew theatrical languages for designers, directors and other
\ntheatre-makers.<\/p>\n

Each year, a set of technology platforms and tools are chosen for their
\npotential impact on theatrical scenography in its broadest sense, as
\nwell as their connection to consumer and industrial technologies that
\nshape our lives. \u00a0\u00a0(In 2012, technologies covered include Touchdesigner,
\nMax\/MSP, and incorporation of common sensors.)<\/p>\n

A set of dramatic forms are also chosen for their fluidity of structure,
\npotential relationship to the selected technologies, and narrative,
\naesthetic, and thematic connections to the world’s evolving use of
\ntechnology.<\/p>\n

Participating designers and theatre-makers are trained by and
\ncollaborate with visiting professional artists grappling with the fusion
\nof dramatic action and technology, working with specific
\nworks-in-progress or short theatrical pieces.<\/p>\n

Through this pairing of performance practices with corresponding digital
\npossibilities, the program interweaves creative processes and encourages
\nparticipants to broaden their approach, seek new and wider audiences,
\nand critically engage with the proliferation of new technologies in
\neveryday life.<\/p>\n

The program focuses on design but is open to participation from other
\ndisciplines. Actors (or theatre-makers with significant interest in
\nperformance) interested in training and performing within the laboratory
